Support We Provide
Internal Support Staff
Arena Learning employs people who will endeavour to support individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Our Training Consultants are experienced carers and qualified nurses for
disadvantaged people and can provide assistance if the client requires it.
Trainers have experience of working with individuals who demand support with Literacy, Numeracy, Dyslexia, Learning Difficulties and Challenging Behaviour.
Liaison Officer and Mentor, Nancy Dodds holds certificates in Teaching Basic
Skills and Basic Counselling and can support individuals with learning
difficulties.
Training consultant Jean Brook holds a certificate in Counselling and is a
panel member for Sunderland Youth Offending Team.
External Support
Where existing staff do not have the required skills, we will use external
sources.
Arena Learning works in conjunction with Pathways, Connexions and the
LSC, all of which can provide funding to help towards supporting learners with specialist needs.
We have access to agencies which can help with:
* Social Disabilities
* Physical Disabilities
* Learning Disabilities
Technology and Equipment
We have computers available to our Learners in our centre plus lap tops for
the Training Consultants to carry off site for your use. These computers
can be used for word processing, desk top publishing and finding information using the internet. We also have dicta-phones, cassette recorders, television, video, projectors and screens.
We can hire specialist equipment such as:
* Large screen monitors
* Braille embosses
* JAWS - a screen reader
* LUNA - software for enlarging text
Help with Tests and Assessments
Should your programme require you to sit an examination, depending on your circumstances we can request additional support from the examinations body for:
* Extra time to complete your exam
* Someone to read or write for you
* A room allocated for you alone
* Papers in large print
My overall impression of Arena Learning is that they are a very professional organisation.
